Who We Are

Before Virchow, LLC is a health, wellness, and herbal medicine consultancy founded by a board-certified pathologist & clinical herbalist inspired by many spontaneous conversations over the years with people from all walks of life about their own unique individual health challenges.

Working with clients 1:1 or in group settings, Before Virchow aims to empower people with relevant and helpful information about their own bodies and specific ailments; and to provide personalized, science-based, actionable advice about how to best define and achieve individual health & wellness goals that includes safe and effective use of medicinal plants.

We also operate a small batch apothecary where we make bespoke products for our consultancy clients, and offer compounding services for other clinical herbalists. This includes whole plant extracts made with high quality organic medicinal plants either cultivated responsibly in our private gardens, or sourced from reputable suppliers such Mountain Rose Herbs, Oshala Farms, Frontier Coop, Starwest Botanicals, and others.

Our signature double-extraction method uses the percolator funnel method and begins with maceration using organic apple cider vinegar (ACV), followed by a second maceration using 94.5% grain alcohol which is then heat evaporated to produce a final product that is 80-100% ACV by volume. This provides for complete extraction of the medicinal phytochemicals and produces a final liquid extract that is mostly or completely alcohol-free per request.

We also formulate glycerites, infused oils, oxymels, syrups, herbal tea mixes, powders, skin salves, sunblock salve, lip balm, toothpowder, and other health & wellness products. All of our products are handmade with high quality food grade ingredients, organic and local whenever possible, and a lot of good intent.
